Newfoundland Vaping Regulations

The province had one of the highest youth vaping prevalence of the entire country.  According to the Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance for Control of Tobacco (ACT), 37 per cent of kids in this province between Grades 7 and 12, vape. The Tobacco and Vapour control Products Act was amended in 2016 and 2018, with new vaping-related provisions. It is not known at this time if the government wants to proceed with further modifications.

It’s worth noting that in early December 2019 the province announced they would not allow the introduction of cannabis vape products. The government cited that a number of the cases of severe lung disease related to vaping were attributed to vaping cannabis.

Lisa Dempster the Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development stated, “we are delaying the introduction of cannabis vape products for sale in our province to allow time to consider the best approach to mitigate the risks.”

The province has left the door open to potentially allow cannabis vaping products into the market depending on research and further examination.
